The models – Krefey’s Celestial Lions Project

This section shows the various models and stages of painting and assembly that this project has undergone so far.  Once a unit is finished, a photo of the squad / unit will be included in the appropriate page in the “The Chapter” section.  It’s worth noting that my painting skills are only average, so enjoy the pictures, but bear in mind that the finished products aren’t going to be eye poppingly awesome 😉  Also some of the pictures are pretty woeful.  So I’ll be taking new ones at some point too.

A note on painting:
Below is how I have been painting (and in order to maintain a consistent looks despite having developed new painting techniques since I started, will continue using) the hordes.

Where possible, I’m listing the original Games Workshop (GW) paint I used, but I will also list the Vallejo Game Colour (VGC) or Vallejo Model Air (VMA) colours I tend to be using now due to GW changing their paint range.  In some cases I will mix different stages of colour to increase the blending (such as on the blue power weapons) so that there are more steps in painting some elements of the models.  This is just a rough guide and to help me remember for consistency.

Undercoat – black

Gold:
Base coat of GW Tin Bitz (now VGC Tinny Tin through the airbrush)
Several dry brush coats of GW Shining gold (now a single coat of VGC Glorious Gold through the airbrush)
Highlight of 2:1 mix of Shining gold and Mithril Silver (I have a lot of this made up and a few spare pots to mix up more when it runs out, so at this stage no VGC colours for this).

Blue:
Basecoat – GW Regal Blue (VGC Imperial Blue)
Coat – GW Enchanted Blue (VGC Magic Blue)
Wash – GW Asurmen Blue
Highlight – GW Enchanted Blue (VGC Magic Blue)

wash – GW Devlan Mud (soon to be Army Painter strong tone as I’m about to run out of Devlan Mud).

Basecoat – GW Scab Red
Highlight – GW Blood Red
further highlight (mostly for gems) – GW Blazing orange

Black highlight – GW Fortress grey, VMA German Grey
